Browns Mock Draft first 7 picks
Call it wishful thinking.I'll try to keep it real.
Claussen is still on the board at 7.Berry isn't.We trade down, and get Earl Thomas with our first pick, and Golden Tate and then Brandon Spikes in the 2nd,with the pick we aquired trading down.In the 3rd we take Patrick Robinson and then Dan Lefevour, not wanting to lose our chance at him.In the fourth,we grab Lammar Houston to bolster our D-line,then use the pick aquired for BQ,after picking Lefevour.on an OT,for the next QB.Ironic?
1)Thomas,FS
2)Tate,WR
2b)Spikes LB
3)Robinson,CB
3b) Lefevour,QB
4) Houston,DL
4b)Kyle Calloway/Jason Fox OT
How's your Mock look?
Well I'm going to do mine with the picks as we have them now
1. Eric Berry- If both tackles and both Qbs go before our pick at 7 Berry could easily fall to us :)
2. Kareem Jackson- This was the hardest pick for me. Kareem is an underrated player that doesn't get much attention but has plenty potential. If Pouncey falls here he's my pick and a surprise pick could be Brandon Lafell a big receiver out of LSU.
3. Koa Misi- Misi will be a big time player in the NFL and is just the guy we need to push Kamerion Wimbley
3. Vlad Ducasse- Vlad could start instantly at RG for us and with good coaching could move to RT in a year or two
4. Lefevour- He hurt himself a lot by not throwing at the combine especially cause Central Michigan's' pro day doesn't attract a lot of attention. If Brady is not on the roster we should get Lefevour here.
Your picks are all good, and I'd be happy with that outcome.I like Jackson, who was a shutdown corner for the Tide, and is a burner.I've praised Misi all along, and if we can wait until the fourth for Lefevour,we could maybe get Misi there. We have to get some help for the D-line ,too.
I think we have a need at WR that needs addressed,on day one of the draft, along with a CB.
We could also aquire 2nd round picks for Harrison or D'Qwell. And I read awhile back that Steinbach and Wimbley are both being dangled around, for trade/picks.Watching game film from last year, and Wimbley wasn't performing well.Good thing we didn't take that deal with Ozzie, and give him Ngata.Ya think Savage owed him a favor?....Yeah,I'd be really glad to get Misi.
Yeah we really need to add youth to the d-line. If Misi isn't there in the 3rd round I'm looking at Tyson Alualu or maybe Mike Neal.
Hmm I wonder what Wimbleys trade value is. I cant see us trading Steinbach though.
I was a little surprised hearing Steinbachs name, too.Maybe just letting the League know we'll listen to offers.Maybe because of his contract.
I wonder what Wimbleys trade value is too.He just went to the Raiders for, here goes again "undisclosed" draft picks.
We did just get Peyton Hillis from Denver.and a couple more UDPs,for BQ.I'd take him in a heart beat over Tony Jones.Big bruiser.Who needs Gerhart? Not us.
With the Wimbley trade I really want Koa Misi...Oakland isn't the most well run team in the NFL so I'm hoping we ripped them off a little. Although I think Wimley will be a BEAST in a 4-3 that also features Richard Seymour.
Wimbley's calling is in a 43/46. Preferably a 46 so that he'd be isolated on an "island" with the left tackle. But until he gets stronger and develops a 2nd move, he'll be no more than a 6 sack a season player.
We got a 3rd rounder in a VERY deep draft. I'm quite pleased with the move, despite having a soft spot for Wimbley.
Question; Can you use "third third"in a sentence. Answer; Yes.
Well, now I can add Misi as our second third round choice, and still get Lefevour with our third third round choice.
Question; How many draft picks will the Browns have by draft day?
a) 12
b)13
c)14
d)15
e) at this rate at least 18,and another 4 for 2011
I'm quite pleased with the Wimbley trade also.Quite pleased, indeed.Wimbley would have been a free agent after next year, anyway.
This is my updated version
1. Eric Berry
2. Kareem Jackson
3. Dan Lefevour- I was looking at him again and decided he needs to be our QB of the future. He wont cost a lot of money and Delhomme can mentor him for a couple years like they want to do.
3. Koa Misi- theres a good chance Misi wont be here, if he's not I like Tyson Alualu
3. Vlad Ducasse
4. Riley Cooper- Holmgren said they want to get a faster receiver. Cooper fits that bill and he also has great size
5. Jimmy Graham- I think if coached well Graham has a lot of potential
Wow! I kinda just updated mine on "Claussen".
1)Pierre-Paul-Super Freak- He did 13 backflips in a row,and he's 6-6,270.Lightning off the ball.Wingspan of a small airplane,bit Mike Tyson in an altercation...'Nough said.
2)Shipley-he's climbing,I want him, perfect third down go-to guy,Lefevours best friend in the world.
3)Vlad Ducasse-we bothed picked this guy, coincidence? I think not.He should be our RT come Sept.
3)Owosu-Ansuh (CB,Indiana of Pennsylvania)- Super Freak
3)Lefevour-will become the Browns "Savior"- Let's all do the "lelele-fevour"
4)Major Wright
I'll get the rest of our picks together, then post it,eventually.
If Berry does fall to us,and we go that route,I think we'd have to get Misi in the second. He won't be around for the third.Peppi,Misi,or bust.
Are you taking Peirre-Paul at 7?
If the draft goes the way I think it will,yes,Pierre-Paul at 7.If we can drop 2-3 spots, maybe with Buffalo.so they can get Claussen,or Jacksonville,so they can get Tebow/Haden,Peppi should still be there. But not for long. And we can always hope for a bidding war for our pick. But I just can't see Seattle passing on Berry,if he even makes it to 6,unless someone takes Claussen before we pick. Then it's still iffy....Besides,
We just dumped Wimbley, and if the opposing QB doesn't get pressured,it doesn't matter if we have Pro Bowlers back there, most NFL QBs will pick us apart. We need a legitimate pass rusher. That's why I said I preferred we spend the Jake Delhomme money on Joey Porter, and let BQ run the show.
The thing Peppi needs to work on is his run D.Wimbley stunk in the run D,and the ILB wasn't much help.either.If the Browns DL doesn't disrupt the play,we're in bad shape, when opponents run wide.So if we take Pierre-Paul,and he improves his run D,then I'm happy.
I was just checking out our roster, and Alex Hall jumps out.It is possible that we plug him in at the WLB spot. The guy had 25 sacks his final two years in college, and remember the pick/TD he made last preseason in coverage?
How much longer til the draft? I'll probably flip-flop on Peppi or Haden 23 times by then.
Actually,I want them both, along with Suh,and Berry. I do think alot of Owosu-Ansuh,though.So maybe if Berry is gone,we should get Earl "the girl" Thomas.( It rhymed, and pearl is already taken. )
I'm open for suggestions right up until draft day.
DE bust dept.: Remember last year, when Tyson"chicken legs" Jackson was all the hype, and then went third?..He collected exactly as many sacks as I did, last year, for the Chiefs. And a whopping 23 tackles,or so.Womack blocked him well, and Harrison ran right by him.So we could have done worse.
The reason I think Berry can fall to us is because St. Louis and Washington both want QBs, Detroit and KC both need Tackles. I don't understand why so many people have Detroit taking Suh still, they got Williams from us and they signed Vander Bosch, thats already a huge upgrade from what they had last year, if they take Suh they will have a great d-line with a terrible secondary and a hurt QB. That leaves Tampa and Seattle in front of us. Tampa will take whichever d-linemen it wants and I believe Pete Carrol will do the same. Why were the USC teams so good? They have an amazing front 7 and a high scoring offense. Carrol will be looking to install the same thing there.
My Mock Draft
1. Sam Bradford
2. Russel Okung
3. Ndamukong Suh
4. Jimmy Clausen
5. Bryan Bulaga
6. Gerald McCoy
7. Eric Berry
Yes that is the same as walterfootball.com (I agree with his picks up to #10)
OK.Plan A is the Pierre-Paul plan, though it's tough to go with a one year wonder.
Plan B ; still assuming Berry is gone
1)Haden
2)Koa Misi
3)Morgan Burnett
3b)Ducasse
3c)Lefevour
4) Cooper
5)Mike Neal(Purdue)
Alot of people still have Suh going to Detroit because he's projected as the best player in the draft, and that's what the Lions do.They still would have plenty of time to address the LT spot.
The fulcrum of the Browns getting Berry rests on Claussen. a) whether or not they want Claussen,OR b)whether or not Washington takes Claussen.
1-br
2-suh
3-mcC
4-Oku
5-Bula
6-Berry or
1-br
2-oku
3-suh
4-Bula
5-Berry
The problem I have is Claussen is iffy for Washington. They signed Rex Grossman a few days ago,and he's only 29.they gave Campbell a first round tender,so he's staying put. They might well be looking at the LT spot.If the Lions do take Suh,they get Okung. If not,Bulaga. They were high on Bradford, but have since appeared to have given up,thinking he's a Ram for sure.On the Skins message board,at ESPN,they're hoping Claussen has a great Pro Day(Apr.9th,I believe)so the Rams will take him,and then they can get Bradford.Fat chance of that.IMO.
So, while we may have a shot at Berry,he's far from being ours. And there's plenty a slip.twixt a cup and a lip. P.S. I don't know if rooting for such fortune is such a good idea in Cleveland....Yeah,Haden would be nice,or Pierre Paul....I'll count that chicken when it hatches! bu gock!
Yeah, if you think about it there's really no sense in discussing options now because so much will change before the draft. But it's still fun!
Hells yeah,it's fun.I'm a football guy,and I am a die-hard Browns fan, even though my Dad was the one who got to see the last Championship team.He was a friend of Ernie Kellerman, back in the day.I'm a relative of the Zerbys, who used to be the groundskeepers at the old Stadium.I once had Rocco Scotti tell me we had same hair style, even though I was just a kid.I remember meeting players, with my Dad.Like Jim Houston,Bill Nelson,Don Cockroft. So I grew up with the Browns.
I think the more we bounce ideas around, the better grasp we(at least I) get on what is going on,and what the Browns should be doing,as compared to what they do.Of course, only hindsight will show what was best, but it gives me a barometer of the Browns, and it's face.Mike Holgrem.Like we agree that Dan Lefevour would be the best choice for the Browns. If we get him and succeed, great call.If we get Claussen, and he succeeds, while Lefevour tanks, great call. But if he takes Claussen,or McCoy,or Tebow, and they tank, while Lefevour becomes a good player, thats' not so great. So I like trying to feel out what's best for the Browns.I like it alot.
Time to change my "Cable Guy Image". Get a real Brown up there.
Cool stuff. I wish i had experiences like that.
Agreed. I just dont see the Browns taking Peirre- Paul or peppi as you call him. The reason we could afford to trade Wimbley (in my eyes and I think Heckerts) is because Roth is going to be an absolute beast at that position. They valued a 3rd round pick more then Wimbleys 6 sacks and athletic ability (which is what peppi would bring as well). Im not saying that rushing the passer is now a strength but in 2008 we had 17 team sacks, last year we had 40. When the Browns can pass the ball effectively and the secondary can cover those 40 sacks are going to stand out a lot more.
Well Real I'm sure you will find this as interesting as I did
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2010/03/holmgren_says_cleveland_browns.html
Looks like Claussen will definitely not be the pick
I don't know if Heckert thinks the best thing to do would be to put Roth on the weak side.I think Heckert is just Holgrems puppet, anyway.
Last year when Roth came we were able to move Bowens inside, where he excelled.Roth did a good job in short coverage, and had a good inside swim move that enabled him to beat tight ends, and he upgraded the SLB postion. Why move him? Who will play the SLB slot? Fujita?
Pierre-Paul could beat LTs,and get sacks without us blitzing.Peppi might double Wimbleys output, and consistently, not to mention the balls he could swat away. They dumped Wimbley because he wasn't getting it done.
Regardless,I think we need more speed on the edge, there. If Koa Misi is a good pick up,then Peppi is a better pick up.
Thanks for the article.I would hope that Holgrem doesn't show his hand, before the draft.I'm sure many teams are.I don't want Claussen, but if he does,I doubt he'd announce his intentions to the media. It's funny,he could be telling the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.Or he could say he had a change of heart, after Claussens Pro Day. He does keep saying that QB is the most important position, and we are in a position to get a QB who some think is another Aaron Rodgers.Let's hope he just thinks it doesn't matter if everyone knows his intentions, and that he will grab Lefevour, and bring him along.
Just had a thought. He says they may go into the second for a QB.That would mean Tebow,or McCoy.Do you think that's a smokescreen? If that is,then why wouldn't this whole interview be?
And I'm spent. This is as dizzying as Austin Powers time machine.
