Senior Bowl
The senior bowl is an important part of the scouting process. So far from what I've read on various sites is that the QBs have done a poor job (that goes for the shrine game to) in practice. If it's not an arm strength problem then its accuracy or poor mechanics. I don't expect the browns to draft a QB in the 2010 draft.
Draft Countdown put up a list of players that each team was talking to. These are the players on the browns list.
Monday:
Taylor Mays
Anthony Dixon
Jimmy Graham
Zac Robinson
Shay Hodge
Harry Coleman
Tuesay:
Zane Beadles
Leigh Tiffin
Mike Windt
Sam Young
Vladimir Ducasse
Ted Larsen
Cameron Sheffield
Jeff Byers
Geno Atkins
I would love to see us get Jimmy Graham in the later rounds, I think he has Antonio Gates potential. Maybe we will be this years Heckerts 5th round gem. Shay Hodge and Dixon are other players that intrigued me. And I think its obvious we will be drafting an o-linemen or two this year.
Maybe we'll get Haden, then Mays ,if he falls to the second.I'll be good with that.Rob Ryan will get the most out of him.
Agreed, I'd take that.
With this terrible Senior Bowl practice week, it's looking more and more like Mays could fall to the 2nd.
And more and more making me wonder if we should even take him if he does. If Mays falls and we take him I will trust Heckert but if we pass him up I guess I wont be to disappointed.
Well,I will be.He just needs more coaching. For having a terrible week,he had the best play of practice, for the defense. He blasted Andre Roberts shortly after the WR caught a pass, dislodging the ball, and sending Roberts sprawling.
The knock is he goes after the big hit too often.Once he gets his Pro brain together,he's already got the tools to be the BEST safety in the NFL.He stayed an extra year at USC to improve, before he got to the pros. Not because he thought he could go higher,if he waited. He knew all the LBS were leaving. The guy is devoted. Please let him fall to us.He looks like LeBron, minus 4inches of height.Did LeBron look like he'd ever be a good outside shooter, when we drafted him?He just needs coaching.IMHO,of course.
With all the good value guys in the first thru fourth rounds,I think the Browns need to get what they can for DA,McDonald,Rogers, and possibly Corey Williams(Big Contract, and he played "over his head" at the end of last season. We could end up with ALOT of picks.
DA: third rounder
McD: say, fourth rounder
Williams:To a big spender?With that ending,lastyear?second rounder
Rogers: " " " " ?first and a third.
Then we trade down, and get Seattles' second 1st and 2nd picks.(14th and 8th in the second)What would you want? Haden,or the 14th and 8th in the second? I'd take the picks, being us.Maybe Hasselback will be in there somewhere, taking care of the QB dilemma, for now.Holgrem has just come out publicly, saying he won't have a QB competition this year.
(Hopefully, they'll want two guys so bad,and they won't be able to make up their minds....)
We'd get two 1s,three 2s, four 3s,two 4ths,and three 5ths.That's 14 guys!!!
Let's see; DL,RT,WR,CB,FS,TE,QB,RB,LB, in the first 3 rounds!!!
That could lead to a Dynasty!!! I'd wait couple/few years for that.
Good points, I guess i'm comfortable with taking Mays in the second but what if other high ceilings guys like Brandon Spikes or Jared Odrick fall to us?
I would not trade Corey Williams especially if we trade Rogers. I'm all for DA being traded if not he should be cut. I'm fine with trading Mcdonald as well but I think his trade value is so low there is no point.
I've been thinking.....We're gonna have to see what we get through free agency. There's so many different ways we could go.I'm a huge Kurt Coleman fan,and he's likely to be around for us in the fourth.I'm also a Major Wright(Florida) fan,and he'll be around in the third. So getting Mays isn't as important as getting good run stoppers.
With nosetackle a "need" position by some teams, looking to win it all next year,I'd trade away both Rogers and Williams, with their bloated contracts, and we can get Odrick or Lamarr Houston(Texas),or even Cam Thomas,in the third.
We brought them in after going 10-6,thinking they would bring our run D up to respectable, and get us to the playoffs. But it hasn't happened. So,I'd rather we get some younger guys.
I'd get as many picks as I could,if I were Holgrem.As long as it's a fair trade,or better.
What value do you think we could get for McDonald? If we can get Coleman, with the pick we trade him for,I'm in.I liked Adams more as the extra DB.Hopefully, some team won't realize what a poor tackler he can be,and make us a good offer.
I think Coleman didn't really make any noise during the senior bowl practices, if he looks like just another jersey during the game I expect him to drop a lot in the draft especially cause he probably wont do anything great at the combine. I don't think he will be to high on our priority list.
I think Odrick has the highest value for our 2nd round pick, which is also why I doubt he will be there. He had a great week of practice at the senior bowl. Either way I think we can get a bigish name in the 2nd round which is exciting.
And for the record I'm an Adams fan. If we draft Haden I think Adams will be a good slot defender or he could move back to FS if we don't bring back Pool or draft a replacement.
After watching the Senior Bowl, just about all I got out of it was that this is no way to really evaluate talent. You want to say Mays is great because he picked off a terribly thrown pass, right to him?You want to say that Graham is an excellent pass rusher, after beating a statue to the QB?You want to say Zak Robinson is a better QB than Tony Pike, because of this showing? How about Gilyard, who made good catches, but doesn't look like he could take an NFL hit? How's he gonna get off the line?
On the upside,it did show that the DLs looked for real.I thought the Norths' Odrick,Cal Thomas, and the Souths Dan Williams(Tenn),Lamarr Houston all looked pretty enticing.
Patrick Robinson played well.Dan LeFevour showed he's a gamer.Koa Misi looked like he could be our answer for pass rushing LB.I'd be happy seeing us draft any of them,at the right time.
I disagree I think this game showed a lot. I think Odrick and Graham solidified themselves as first round picks. Mays although it wasn't a good pass he DID go after the ball instead of just taking the guys head off, which shows he's not just some ignorant idiot, I'd love to get him in the second round. LeFevour showed that if Tebows a first rounder so is he, which i find really entertaining they come from the same system and LeFevour stats are just as impressive and the only difference between them is that if looks like LeFevour could succeed in the NFL...yet Tebow will get picked multiple rounds before him. I think Gilyard did a great job shutting up the critics. All the guy does is produce and he's even done a good job overcoming mental obstacles, the only knock on him is his weight but just look at Desean Jackson.
As of right now this is what i'd want our first 3 rounds to look like
1. Joe Haden
2.Taylor Mays
3.Tyson Alualu/Gilyard
3.Ciron Black
I don't see the Seatle passing on mays in the 2nd with the new coach in town up there. Carol would have to take him if he fell but then again I would of never thought Mauluga would of fell to us and then to pass on him at that.
True if Mays slips to the second round I doubt he will make it past Detroit or Seattle
Actually for whatever reason we pick before Seattle in the 2nd round. But Tampa (if they pass on Berry) and Kansas City could all be targeting Mays along with Detroit.
We alternate picks with seattle because of our identical records,(5-11).They had the easier schedule,so they getted the first round.I think.
I think the Senior Bowl should be renamed the "Going Pro Bowl",and let any Jr. who has signed up for the draft to play.So we can get a better look at them.
Gotta go.
Guys the Browns were talking to last Wednesday and Thursday:
Kurt Coleman
Thomas Welch
Cam Thomas
Riley Cooper
Thursday:
Thomas Welch

That's correct.
...even a blind squirrel can find a nut, once in a while.
I'm glad to see Kurt Coleman on that list.I'd like to see us get MajorWright, for FS,and KCfor SS.
MW if he's there in the fourth, and Coleman the next pick.
Gilyard had a bad week at practice, dropping alot of passes, before the Senior Bowl.
Wasn't that Ciron Black trying woefully to play left tackle in the Senior Bowl?Like St.Claires' little brother.I wouldn't want him at either tackle spot. Not atheletic enough.Statuesque.If Iowas Balugu falls to the second,he' my pick.Even if Mays,Spikes, etc. are there. We can't afford to not get a solid RT now.
It's not necessarily a good thing Coleman was on that list. He made literally no noise at the senior bowl and made no plays during the game. I love the guy but I'd only draft him in the 6th round and someone would have already taken him by then.
Gilyard dropped some easy passes during practice but he still got open. During the game he did what he did his entire college career and that was make plays. To be honest I'd rather have Gilyard then any of the receivers we have on the roster now.
Ciron didn't do that great of a job on Brandon Graham but on some of the plays he did just fine against him but the QB held onto the ball to long. He also ran all the way down the field to make a block which was a very good play. I was kind of just using Ciron as a name. Someone who could play RT and RG and shows athleticism should be the pick there. It seems like it'l be Thomas Welch but I don't know anything about him yet.

Some are saying that Bulaga may actually reach the top 10. Personally, I think he's gone just before pick 20 or so, but I wouldn't hold my breath on him making it to the 2nd. But like you, if he's there, he'd be an absolute no brainer, IMO.
As for Black, his stock has been slipping (much like Sam Young) after each game he plays. However, I'd still take a flier on him in the 4th/5th round to be a mauling RT. His pass pro isn't the greatest, but with a solid RG next to him someday, maybe he could develop. He can't be worse than St. Clair... I haven't seen tackle play worse than St. Clair since LJ Shelton was getting beat multiple times every game to get our QB sacked.
Gilyard's stock went down, IMO. He just doesn't seem to get open like he showed against the mediocre defenses Cincy played. He seems very quick, but he looked slower in the Senior Bowl, and in practices. I think he's going to slip to the middle or bottom of the 2nd. My next rankings will reflect that.
