Dez Bryant

Dez Bryant had phenomenal numbers his sophomore season. He followed that with 3 games of very good production, but was suspended the rest of the season. I've seen a few mock drafts that have us taking him with our first round selection. My thoughts on this are, Dez will be a star in this league, but we drafted 2 WR's early last year. So if we draft him our 1,2, and 3 receivers will be a rookie with Dez a 2nd year man with MoMass and basically another rookie in Robiskie. I think the only way we can do this is if our QB is not Brady Quinn or a rookie. We would need an experienced QB to do this, but I think Dez Bryant's potential is extremely high despite missing a lot of his junior season.

Yeah,I heard him be compared to T.O.,but geeze,we need so much else,I'd rather see us go after Marshall, along with Sheffler.Offense through FAs,and build the D through the draft.
If we have to,how about Kevin Kolb?Think he's worthy?

Kevin Kolb is probably my top choice for QB next year. He's as cheap as Brady, but also even less experienced but has shown more promise.

Just as long as they trade away Brady,or tell him he'll be a back-up.I don't want to see another QB competition.I really don't think the Browns will do that again, though.Heckert should have some clout in attaining Kolb.I think they'll let BQ go somewhere else,if he wants,to try to resurrect his career.

I don't expect a QB competition I think Holmgren will know who he wants to be QB and that's good

Dez Bryant is the next Quan Boldin. The guy is a true player. I mean, he didn't even do anything wrong in my eyes. He got suspended for the season because he went to Deion Sanders personal home to train. It's BS, in my mind.

Either way, the guy is a stud with glue hands, and runs great routes. He is a big, physical receiver as well. I love him.

Enough to take him 7th overall on this team? I'm thinking maybe, depending on the QB

I like Dez, but this team is looking to make a splash this next year.  It is usually very difficult to become an excellent first year receiver (can't explain).
Also the draft position that the Browns are in could be bad if Sealttle chooses a quarterback like quite a few analysts have predicted.  That puts the Browns in a situation where the prices go very high after a quarterback has been taken.  It possibly gets ugly between the dez/agent and team.  WR tend to be difficult to get into camp.  Pure Speculation, Obviously.

What makes you think its more difficult to be an impact receiver then any other position in your first year? Micheal Crabtree missed all training camp and the first 6 weeks of the season and still ended up with 48 rec and 625 yards (which is better then MoMass who had all season). Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie had a combined 107 rec and 1,441 with 11 tds this year and they weren't even first rounders. Out of the 6 receiver's taken in the first round last year all but Heyward-Bey had a good rookie season (which was expected). I've heard Dez Bryant get compared to 2 pro receivers, being, Terrell Owens and Anquan Boldin. T.O. had 35 rec 520 yards and 4 tds his rookie season and Boldin had 101 rec 1377 yards and 8 tds in his first year in the league.

I'm still not saying Bryant should be the pick but I think the only feasible knock on him is that he was suspended for most of the season.

Which, again, isn't that feasible, IMO. The guy got busted for going to a former players house to better himself physically. It's a minor NCAA violation.

In this draft, I don't think we'll see him being taken 7th just because all of the other talent, but in any other draft, he's top 10 talent.

"Players believed to be under close watch by the Browns include Oregon safety T.J. Ward, Arizona cornerback Devin Ross and Bowling Green wide receiver Freddie Barnes."

This is from an article about the East-West Shrine game. I would love to see us get Freddie Barnes in the later rounds, I really like T.J. Ward's style of play but his size doesn't excite me very much on the NFL level and I dont know anything about Devin Ross.

We need to work on our secondary or the right side of the o-line. Wideouts can be picked up through free agency, bq needs a full season without looking over his shoulder. I can't wait for the draft, please don't trade down and grab a center again. Mack will be good though. Go browns!!!!!

Freddie Barnes does look like he could be a playmaker. And we've got Jake Allen, the star from Mississippi, too. He has 4.55 speed, and is 6' 4',and can leap.He avged over 20 yds. a catch and 125yds. a game his last year of college.
IMO,we need to protect the QB first,so if we trade down, and get a stud RT,plus another second rounder,I'm good.Especially if we get Hasselback.

I dont really expect much out of Jake Allen. When people think of the winning formula they say you have to 1. Protect the QB 2. Get to the QB  3. Move the Ball. Usually its run the ball but I think thats more changing into pass so i just said move. Since Womack replaced St. Clair, I think we can protect the QB pretty well. Not amazingly but I think well enough to not spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on. As far as getting to the QB goes, I cant wait for an entire year of Matt Roth. I'm still not really buying into Wimbley but I think with Marcus Bernard as a backup we can get a lot of sacks. But we really cant move the ball nor can we stop the pass or the run that well. We need to add major players to the secondary and get another MLB. The icing on the cake that is our defense is our d-line is getting old we need to add some youth. Offensively we need to get a QB in free agency because there just aren't enough picks or good enough players in the world. Our WR's still need time to mature but I think if we could get Barnes in the 5th round thatd be great, and we need a veteran wideout which could be Mike Furrey.

I love Barnes. He runs very crisp routes, and may be one of the more fundamentally sound WR's in the draft. His problem is his speed, but with his hands, I wouldn't be surprised if he went higher than the 5th rounder he's being projected.

1)Protect the QB:I don't want us to rely on "Pork chop" to start 16 games at RT.I was happy to see him come here, and am happy he's our RG.He did much better than St.Clair, but that was a soft schedule at the end.

2)Get the QB: I'd say you have to make them throw first. So you need to be able to stop the run, before you can get to the QB.So McClain would be my guy, before DBs.I know the game is changing, and stopping the pass is big,but when you can't consistently stop the run with the front 7,you start bringing up guys, and get burned through the air.

3)Move the ball: If you can't do that, your defense has to be twice as good.I think that if our offense had been more like "07",the defense was capable of keeping us in the hunt.(isn't it cool how in baseball it's a "race",but in football,it's the "hunt"?)This coincides with 1),We looked great running at the end.But those were just a mirage. We're gonna need a stud RT,and  a couple of good recievers, along with the most important part,a QB who can Git-R-Dun!!
