Mangini,coaching staff to stay put
Yeah, alot of people were fooled by Holgrems presence, that he/the new GM/and Mangini could not co-exist.
IMO,Holgrem doesn't want to rock the boat too much, and with Mangini as his pupil, answering to him,and already under contract, they can get on with developing the team.
If Mangini falters,he can always fire him,and take over for himself.
I'm in,with whatever Holgrem decides.
Best case scenario: Mangini sticks to coaching, and along with some help, develops a dynasty. Annual parades down Euclid every February.
Worst case: The team bombs, and Holgrem fires Mangini, then takes the HC position for himself.
Best case:Suddenly we start winning,without Mangini,and become a dynasty,under Holgrem.
Worst case: Holgrem can't save the mess created, and Lerner ends up firing him after 4 more years of garbage time.
Worster yet:The team moves to LA,where they take back the "Rams" name, and the Browns name goes to St.Louis....Remember the St.Louis Browns?
In the end I'm happy Mangini is staying. IMO Holmgren new he wouldnt get a good experienced coach this year so sticking with Mangini to see what he could do is probably the best option. But I'm hoping Daboll is still gone but we will have to see. But if Mangini gets fired mid-season I don't see how Holmgren could come in and replace him.
And now we will stick with the 3-4 and I'm very excited for the draft if Eric Berry falls to us thats fantastic but I'm watching the National Championship game right now and Rolando McClain would still be a fantastic pick.
Myself,I was more looking forward to see Holgrem make his mark, and do it HIS way.Are we going to stay 3-4?I'd be happy to stick with Ryans' defense. It appeared innovative. Are we going to go west coast?I heard that Brian Daboll is staying.
So,I'm hoping we do change the offense, but I'm OK with the defense,as it is.Some of those numbers that put us at the bottom of the NFL rankings had to do with the offense not being able to stay on the field. And hopefully,we can cover the areas of weakness we do have via the draft or free agency.
I heard that Holgrem is giving Mangini a one year probation, and that he could then go after Fox or Gruden,or himself,if he's unhappy. It'll be interesting to see what happens next.
I'm excited about keeping the 3-4 because of Roth who we have to get a new deal as soon as physically possible. If we can pick up a good ILB in the draft (rolando/spikes) then I think our starting LB corps will be a good one. I think we should try to trade Eric Barton maybe pick up a 6th round pick or if not just cut him so Trusnik and Maivia can still get some reps as young guys. Although the browns might be hesitant to draft an ILB high because of how well Bowens played and with D'qwell coming back, but Bowens is getting old and he could be a great mentor. I wonder how much input Mangini will have on the draft because I'm sure he will push for his Jets players to remain starters and he's probably chomping at the bit to draft Joe Haden (btw this weeks walter football update has us taking Haden at 7).
I am honestly no Mangini fan, but I hate to say this... He's winning me over. There were a few plays that we pulled under Brady that were like nothing I have ever seen before. I have to say it was really rough the first few weeks but he's growing on me, dammit. Not to mention Mangini has only been there for a year and you honestly can't expect much in that time (apparently except for a better record than Crennels ((ouch)) )
BTW, I REALLY like Roth, too. Great aquisition. Another pat-on-the-back to Mangini.
