Josh Cribbs better be in a browns uniform next year

It's negotiations, brother.  You never accept the first offer.  He's not going anywhere.  Not only would I give Cribbs WHATEVER he asked for I would make all of the suits at the signing empty their pockets and give him their cash and car keys as well.

They offered him $1.41 million I would be insulted too. Thats less then all of the top 10 kick returners in the league and Cribbs does more then that. I'm just saying Cribbs has a right to be infuriated and pushing away the best player on the team isnt a good way to start a regime.

Well, from this corner all I can see Josh "Predator" Cribbs doing,is either demand a trade,to which Lerner can offer more,or say,no thanks,..or he can decide to retire. But if he comes back before his contract would have been up,he'll have to come back to the Browns, and hope we'll deal him,ala Brett Favre, who the Packers let go to the Jets for a conditional draft pick 3 days after being reinstated by the Commish. If we release him,ala Favre when he was on the Jets,he'd be free to go anywhere...So he won't be getting released.
I am uncertain what Cribbs position is if he retires, and we don't release him.My guess is we simply fine him his salary,in which case his salary still counts against the cap,(unless the CBA isn't reached and there is no cap, for next season).
Given these circumstances,I think Cribbs best option is to do exactly what he is doing, and try to get public outcry to help with his negotiations.
1.4 mil is low.But how much is his counter proposal?
Cribbs did play very well,on a team with no other playmakers. It definitely put him more in the spotlight. He did throw up that gaudy 2500+ total yds. number.
But how much will he be used in the west coast?
What are the odds he gets to run the wildcat, again?
Does he have a chance of being put in the backfield?
If I were in charge,I'd try to end up paying him somewhere in the neighborhood of 2mil per,say 6mil for the next three. So,I'd offer him 15mil for the next 5,at 2mil for the next three, and 4mil for year 4,and 5mil for year five....Then,if he's not worth year 4 and 5,either renegotiate,or trade/cut him. That's life in the NFL.
So,I guess 1.4 isn't that bad of a starting point.

Honestly,I'm surprised that the Browns are negotiating before even getting their GM/HC in place.
Cribbs needs to be patient. No doubt, his agent is trying to press the issue, and get more than they could,if the new guys get here, and have time to consider his value, and what he's due.

I keep picturing Cribbs in Monty Pythons' Holy Grail ,and he's outside the French castle, and asking Lerner,up on the wall,to please let him in.And Lerner is just laughing away, and with that French accent, taunting Cribbs.

Anyone notice that Wes Welkers replacement is another ex-Kent State QB?  2009-232nd pick Julian Edelman.

Go Browns!!!

Assuming we run the west coast offense next year i'm hoping Cribbs isn't used as a receiver but just strictly in the wildcat and on special teams. His agent said they were expecting the first offer to be between 2.8-3.2 million, he said that wouldn't be accepted but could be negotiated with. I think cribs will make between 3.5-4 million which he well deserves.

I was thinking Cribbs in 3-3.5/year because the dude ALREADY has broken the CAREER record of kickoff returns for a TD.  there is something to be said about that.  I'd try to go 3 and hit 3.5 for his work in the wildcat.

I'm a giant Cribbs fan,but even after thinking more about it,I have him playing for less.

  Offer him 15mil for 5 years. 2,2.5,3,3.5,and 4 the final year.That'll be 7.5mil for 3 years,and we'll go from there.

My last post I just threw those numbers out there.I think this will be closer.

It's funny his agent is claiming that Cribbs is demanding a trade. They interviewed Cribbs leaving Berea, and although he was unhappy,he's not anywhere near close to "demanding a trade".
That's when you come to an impasse, and the Browns are too busy right now to be offering any "final offer",which is what Cribbs agent has suggested that he's been given.Just scheming for some extra scoots.
IMHO,Cribbs looked like he doesn't have a full deck, acting like he was paranoid he'll never get paid what he deserves.Like a nervous wreck.Don't any of his teammates have his back? The dude needs to chill out,and wait his turn.Maybe he wants to start spending it,while he has time,in the off-season.It just looked so unprofessional.

Log on,and ask me Cribbs,I'll be your agent.I sure couldn't be any worse.I'll get your back. For a modest fee.You have to keep playing the way your playing, and doing what your doing!!!

that doesn't sound bad, RBF...might have to throw a signing bonus at him or something, but the dude is worth it.  and agreed with the hold off for a bit for him, we have to get a GM and player/personell manager or some other kind of dude in there first, and he has a higher position than player and will be more important in the long run...that said, I LOVE CRIBBS and he oughtta get some more money especially after how he played this season but hold on to your britches, bro franchise management is more important for right now.

Yeah I'm sure they will give him a legitimate offer once they get everything figured out

RBF, I like your numbers.  Cribbs will be her next year and if they allow him to leave I say "FIRE HOLMGREN!"  WTF, We've fired everyone else.  Cribbs is one pro-bowler out of two on a team who was not only called the "Worst team in the NFL" by ESPN but also didn't sniff the play-offs.  If he is allowed to go I'll KNOW they want to relocate again.

The real kicker for Cribbs is that he signed that contract extention, for too long with no bonuses.
That's his fault, and he'll have to live with it.So the Browns have a big upperhand, having him signed for three more years, cheap.
If he wants them to tear it up,they'll want him to take less in return.Maybe,if they want to be nice, they could throw another 2mil bonus at him.Or offer him 1/2mil each year he makes the Pro Bowl,on top of the 5yr.,(2,2.5,3,3.5,4) 15mil offer. If he says no,let him sweat awhile. Then come back with only 1mil bonus instead of two.Tell him he'll be watching next year,if he doesn't sign before camp opens.
The Browns can be even tougher, but I think if they do that, they will alienate fans, like me,a BrownsBacker. At least give the guy a fair shake.Anything less than I've said,I believe will be an unfair shake.

Go Browns!!!

The Browns have now re-opened negotiations with Josh Cribbs, and his "agent".That ole' bag/sweet lady that used to run the show is gone, and now the team is ready to move forward on the issue.

  So says I.  grin
