Brady Quinn on IR

Brady Quinn is now on the IR and will not play the remaining 2 games. I think that was probably the worst news Brady has ever heard. In the last 2 games Brady has gone 16 for 33 and 156 yds with 2 ints. Those are not very convincing numbers, but somehow we won those games. Which in my mind, and I bet Holmgrens mind, is that Quinn was just holding us back in those games. In the 4 losses after the bye Quinn went 74 for 143 and 774 yds with 7 tds. Watching Quinn you can see that he has the athleticism, the arm and the smarts to be a starting QB in this league. But his accuracy has just been not close to good enough. It will be up to Holmgren to decide if he wants to draft a QB or get a good QB coach to work with Quinn.

If Holmgren drafts a QB, I'm going to be calling for his head immediately.

Only an idiot would reach for a QB in this loaded draft.

I hope we draft Claussen. grin Just kidding!

I wonder if BQ being sidelined is just a cover so that Holgrem can get another look at DA,so he can evaluate DA himself,or maybe the Seahawks.Maybe they talked.

I'm also wondering if Holgrem has any thoughts about bringing Matt Hasselback here.

Amazing that Hasselback just had his worst game in like five years, throwing 4 picks while losing to TB.

He's not a FA next year.He's signed through 2010,for 5.75 mil,but he'll count 10 mil against their cap,as of now.

BQ and accuracy has been a thing since college, like DAs gunslingin',so who knows?

Go Browns!!!

I actually thought the same thing, RBF.

However, I think that DA is gone. I just think he wants to see if he can leave on a good note and try to get something in the draft for him.

Theres enough film out there on DA, they wouldnt need Brady to act hurt so they could get a better look. But I am afraid that DA will come in and play really well and will go through all of this over again. I think at the end of the season DA needs to be traded so we never have to even think about another battle between them.

Actually, I hope DA puts up a really good game against the dreadful Raiders but then plays badly against Jacksonville. That way we can rip off Al Davis in a trade.

I'm certain that DA won't be back, given he can't run a west coast offense. But he may very well up his value in the next two weeks.Anywhere he goes,he's gonna have to get a lower contract.
If DA does go to the Raiders, don't be surprised if he does well.Remember,he had to work with a crappy offense this year, too.Given the right circumstances,I still think he could excel.

I think the obvious improvement that the team had after BQ stepped in is the indicator that he IS the Browns QB.  He took DA's high number of picks and eliminated them, proved that he isn't east to tackle and did a good job blocking in the wildcat- What other quarterback does that?
Brady just needs developed.   He's still young and hasn't had hardly any NFL QB time.  DA should be the back up.  Keep them both.  Ask Cinci and Indy what having a crap secondary QB will get you.
Lets not waste all of these draft picks on positions we have covered.  We need a offensive line.   Give Brady time to throw and he is unstoppable.

In his 6 games after getting the starting job back he only threw for over 100 yards 3 times and only completed over 60% of his passes once. Brady Quinn was terribly inaccurate and it wasn't because the defense was in his face. We won those games because of the o-line fantastic run blocking and Jermore Harrison running behind them. To Bradys credit he did a good job running the no huddle but we wont be able to win games in the first half of the year (when teams still care) with poor QB play holding us back. I think Brady still deserves to prove himself but I'm not going to really care if he doesnt. No coach in the NFL seems to like Brady Quinn so i highly doubt Holmgren QB guru feels any differently.

I think DA needs to be traded asap. He just needs to be removed from the roster, he makes to much money to be a backup and now that Brady got hurt whoever the coach is might be inclined for them to have a battle again and we cant afford that.

What about the turnovers?  Turnovers will kill you and Quinn stopped them.

I know that your stats are correct and I know what your saying gobrowns216, but I also said that Brady has been sitting the bench for years now and the cobwebs grow fast.  That no huddle worked because Brady has the brains to pull it off.  A great QB has to be developed and I'm afraid that too often Browns fans and leadership want to draft one.  Very seldom does a great QB roll off the truck.  Brady now has half a year to be brought up to speed and I believe we can do it.  I think if we go back to the QB well we will be sitting at home during the play-off again next year.

I agree that he definitely has the smarts to start but his accuracy has been in question since the draft. I'm hoping that Holmgren and others can coach Brady Quinn to be more efficient but I don't know if that is in the cards. I do not think we should draft a QB especially in the first round. But Holmgren usually gets his QB in the untypical fashion not by drafting the most highly praised guy. The only QB I could maybe see us getting in the later rounds is Case Keenum if he declares, but who knows. We could also go after a veteran.

Maybe Ole' Miss's Jevon Snead, for a project.I'd like to see Zorn come in as QB Coach, and mentor whomever comes in as our QB of the future.I think we'll bring a veteran for the interum.I think it will be Matt Hasselback.Seattle doesn't want him at his price, and he's buds with Holgrem.Just following the dots.

I think Snead needs to go back for his senior year personally just looking at it from his perspective. As far as Hasselback coming in I wouldn't have a problem with that unless Brady is the one they want him to mentor cause I dont think it'l do Brady any good to sit on the bench more.

The reason I think Snead will come out,is the same reason I think alot of Juniors will.

The NFL is tired of throwing guaranteed money at draftees who have never played a down in the NFL,and they'll be working on changing the rules. If nothing gets done before this years draft, alot of undecided juniors will come out,to beat the rule change.

If they can't name BQ the starter before camp, and we don't want a QB controversy, and BQ is only making 700k a year for the next two seasons, what else can happen?Either BQ gets traded,or he bides his time behind Hasselback/rookie,with maybe Jim Zorn bringing him along.BQ is being paid back up money.I think he'll either get traded,or remain as a backup, until he shows he's ready. It wouldn't be that far of a stretch to see him come in half way through next season, with new confidence.Or even 2011,when he'll be playing for a new contract.

Yeah, because Snead being tied for the most INT's in the nation is really a QB we should go after...

I'm not the one that crazes over QB's with turnover issues... I'm just sayin'.
