Just wondering; suppose Jamal decides to retire at years end.He parts with the Browns.

Come July,he decides he would like to give it another go,with his old team the Ravens.

Would the Ravens owe the Browns any compensation?

Just for laughs dept; I would love to see the Browns play the Ravens in their "throwback" jerseys. They get the orange pants!

JfL dept. 2;Michael Grant,an undrafted rookie from ARK,was signed by the Browns, all but assuring Coye Francies of yet another Sunday in the Mangini doghouse.Woof! Woof!

Go Browns!!!

I don't think there would be any compensation.  The Jets didn't get anything from the Vikings for Favre, right?

If Jamal retires, then he's off our team, and we would not be awarded any compensation. I believe the only time we could get compensation is if he signed something with us saying "if you come out of retirement" or if he's traded for a conditional pick. I doubt either happens. I think Jamal stays retired, and the only way he comes back is to come back for a day and technically retire with the team in which he was drafted, and broke records with.

I could be wrong, however.

If that's true,it's a wonder more players don't just "retire" from their team,if they feel unhappy, and go elsewhere...just think if Cribbs would have "retired"from the Browns in early August. He could then have a change of heart, and get that big contract he wanted. If there isn't something, their should be.Something that states if a player retires under contract,he can only return to the team he was under contract with, for the duration the contract would have been,or the team they go to must compensate the team the player left....just trying to make sense.

I mean, it sounds great and all in theory, but I don't know.

Maybe that'd be a good google search for you. :D
