First things first...
Is BQ going to get a free pass into next season? The way the players around him are doing,it's tough to know just where he's at,in the Browns' eyes.He played fine last Sunday in Detroit, but looked a little squeamish, kind of hurried, yesterday. He seemed to be in some very tight reigns. It caused some errant throws, usually a little behind the reciever,or low.Others could be blamed on the route running of the recievers,or the reads not being seen eye-to eye with them. Also, the recievers weren't getting enough seperation, which falls in the talent category, along with the OC and his plays.
Overall, with the seven drops(according to the TV while the game was on),with the combination of other things,it's plenty of reason to give BQ the benefit of the doubt. After all, just look at guys like Peyton Manning, and how bad their first year starting was. It's can be easily be called "growing pains".
With a new GM coming in,and Manginis staying dependant on the GM,it's likely to be up to the new GM what happens.Until we know where that new GM stands on the BQ situation, the draft situation is stuck in neutral.
It seems like a long shot, being that it's become so difficult to bring in any proven coaches, because there are so many other markets that they would prefer to coach in,but Charlie Weis is gonna have some free time, and he could somehow end up here,as OC.Would he want BQ?Would he want Jim Clausen(Why doesn't he have a picklish nickname? How about "crunchtime" )?That's where it's all gonna start.
Watching BQ sprint(pretty fast, huh?) up the middle for the TD sure looked impressive. Why don't they have him run more often? It appears to me that they're saving him.I knew he was capable.
Watching him catch that underthrown ball from Cribbs was impressive, too.dare I say he looked like........gulp....Ole Horsetooth himself?
Right now I hope they are just giving him a free pass.He deserves it.After all, that was only his ninth start in the NFL.
Maybe they could bring in Vinnie T. to mentor him.If I was the consigliere....
Go Browns!!!
I seem to have a completely different brain than anyone that coaches any team that I like, but you HAVE to give Quinn the free pass. It is Horrendous that HE was the best receiver yesterday. Kinda seemed like the offense went back to run-bias yesterday, in the times that I was actually able to listen to the game on my trip back from Daytona Beach (area) FL to Havelock, NC outlasting 4 traffic jams, totalling 2 extra hours, but I got to listen to the game on the ol' crackberry (sprint nfl mobile live) Jim Donovan AND Doug Dieken (let's try to get him out of retirement) I love those guys!!!!!! Just saw OFFICIALLY that Weis is fired...LETS GET HIM for OC I would rather see Bernie as QB coach than Vinny T. I guess i would rather rather see Joe Montana (i LOVE joe montana) as QB coach. WAIT!!!!! it will take some work, but I would be willing to figure out the QB all-time with the BEST completion percentage and get him to coach Brady. I will do the math!! i don't care...I just want to not have to hear about a million dropped passes for the Browns. Mr. Lerner pays these men GOOD MONEY to play football at their stated positions. heck, i catch a football almost 100% of the time it is thrown to me (unless I am trying to show off) and i will NEVER see a million dollars in my whole life
The offensive coordinating on this team is a joke. How Brian Daboll ever got into this league I will never understand. Its either a 1 yd or 50 yd pass. Brady didn't look very accurate but still the way the receivers are playing and the coaching he wont be able to succeed and I think he should be the starter next year. Especially since he wont be getting payed barley anything.
The playcalling is killing Brady, as is the miscommunication between he and the WR's.
Not to mention, Mo Mass needs to learn to make a play on the ball. I specifically recall seeing a beautifully thrown ball on the sideline to Mo Mass that was just barely batted down by Leon Hall. Mo Mass just watched it happen. I'm confident that even Braylon would have went up for that and tried to make a play.
The drops have to stop. The 2 yard plays have to stop.
In the Detroit game, we spent the first quarter airing it out. Then, we went back to 3-5 yard passes and lost.
In this game, we didn't start moving the ball until we threw it down the field.... What's the problem?
OPEN UP THE EFFING OFFENSE DABOLL!
I'm this close to just driving to Cleveland to strangle Daboll.
Brady needs to work on his accuracy as he's not consistent, however, either. One play he'll throw it behind the guy, and the next he'll throw it too high.
However, Brady is doing a GREAT job of stepping up in the pocket and not rolling out every time he feels pressure, which is a HUGE improvement to the first 2.5 games he played this season.
Once he gets his accuracy on spot, we get WR's that run the right routes and make plays on the ball, and get players that catch, along with a running game, and a right side of the line... we may be in business... LOL.
I think Brady needs to start next year. Clausen is the only QB worthy of drafting in the top 10, and not even Peyton Manning would be able to win 8 games with this offense, IMO.
Oh, and did I mention that the defense knows what play we're going to run just by our formation?
If Quinn is in the gun, we're passing. If Quinn isn't in the gun, there's a 95% chance we are running.
Another thing, is I believe we ran on first down almost every single time until the end of the 4th when we were airing it out for a come back.
Our offense is so vanilla.
Charlie Weis for OC in 2010.
I agree, DB41. playcalling needs some spice to it. I think we DO need to get weiss as OC for next year, but could we maybe get him for the remainder of this year? prob. not, but it would be nice i loved the pass to quinn, but if your best option is to throw it to your QB, your offense has problems...also if he is the second leading receiver AND rusher of the game.
I think it's going to be tough to get Weis here. He's gonna get several offers, and the Colts have already been mentioned.(Maybe we can get the OC that Weis replaces-LOL-)Not to mention he might just take a year or so off, seeing as he'll be collecting something like six mil per for the next three years from ND.Let's just hope Lerner throws the most cash at him,and maybe BQ can convince him Cleveland isn't a black hole for coaches.
Go Browns!!!
I dont think Weiss will come here, to be honest. From a carreer standpoint would you want to follow a dissapointing college coaching career with being the OC for the most hated coach in the NFL (which mangini is) and for a team with basically no offensive weapons?
As much as i would like Weiss to be the OC Im not going to waste time hoping he does.Im hoping the new management comes in gets ride of all the coaches besides Brian Cox (dline) and possibly Rob Ryan.
