QB Options
I think its certain now DA is not the man for the job, my guess is Brady Quinn will get his starting spot back soon but will struggle to get first downs just like he did before, if this does happen here are some of the options we will have for next year...
Free Agent Options=
Kellen Clemens- He will be an unrestricted free agent and shouldn't cost much. He already knows Mangini's system (if he remains the coach), but he hasn't seen much NFL playing time. In 2007 he played in 10 games compiled a 60.9 rating, completed 52% of his passes with 5 tds and 10 ints.
Troy Smith- Obviously a familiar name. He is highly regarded by the ravens, he won the job last year but was sick most of training camp handing over the starting spot to Flacco. In his limited playing time Troy has thrown 82 passes completing 53% for 3 tds and 0 ints.
In the Draft=
Jake Locker- Established himself as one of the top QB's in the college game this year. He will cost a lot of money and take up our early first round pick. Has all the tools to be a starting NFL quarterback but will probably struggle with the lack of talent around him. So far this season he's completed 56% of his passes with 12 tds against 8 ints, but his team has only a 3-5 record.
Jimmy Clausen- He will also cost big time money for the early first round pick, but has a great arm and good athletic ability. His stats are amazing completing 65.2% of his passes for 2050 yds with 16 tds and only 2 ints. But it will be hard for anyone to play will with this lack of talent.
Sam Bradford- Would have been the first pick of the draft last year but stayed in college and was hurt most of the season. If we drafted him we could probably get him with the second round pick which means he will cost less and if he busts it wont be as painful. But its almost certain he wouldn't start his rookie season.
There's other draft-able Qbs such as Tebow, McCoy, Pike...and theres also other Free Agents that are possibilities but I think these are the best options.
If were thinking drafting right now my first choice would be Jimmy Clausen, but if Mangini remains the coach I wouldn't be surprised at all if he signs Clemens.
No thanks to Clemens, we don't need another terrible Oregon QB who forces throws and cant complete more than ~50% of his passes.
What I find amazing,is the stats of the guy we got this year,Graham Harrel, and his inability to hang around.I watched him in college, and he had an accurate arm, with good touch, and an ability to lead recievers.Of course,he had some wide open guys, sometimes,to pad his stats. But how a guy like that is less than DA or BQ,I don't know.
So it makes the NCAA guys more intriguing.
Myself,I'm for Tebow.He's a leader.He's a winner.He'll transform the offense.And the OC better mold it to fit him.IMHO.Bash away.
Go Browns!!!
Harrell is a Texas Tech QB. It's simple that TT QB's are not NFL caliber. Kliff Kingsbury, BJ Symons, Harrell, Hodges, and Cumbie are all guys that threw massive amounts of TD's and never made it in the NFL.
Harrell's noodle arm is almost as bad as Ken Dorsey's. He struggles to read defenses as well. It's not hard to throw for 4000 yards in a season when you pass 80% of the time and have 5 receivers to throw to each down.
If Graham Harrel was good someone else would've picked him up after we cut him..
I would love Tebows leadership skills on say...DA...but Florida is struggling lately because of Tebows arm and lack of players like Percy Harvin. When you take away Tebows ability to run (like they will in the NFL) he will be ineffective.
This weeks game in my mind is Mangini's last chance to prove he shouldn't be fired. I don't care if its only his first season, he managed the QB situation terribly, none of the players he brought here are any good, he traded away our best players and got nothing in return. If we put up another 3 or 6 point effort against Chicago who allowed 45 points to Cincinnati then he should be automatically fired. It scares me that Lerner wont want to sell the team and that he wont fire Mangini this early and that leads me to believe Kellen Clemens will be the QB of the Browns next season cause Mangini loves players that arent good enough to play for Ryans Jets.
Yeah, the Tebow love doesn't make sense. Many people are blinded by what he's accomplished on an elite team in Florida.
He's a leader, yes. He's tough, yes.
But when it comes to his skillset, he's got a LOT of work to do. Poor mechanics, barely average defensive reading, and the kid hasn't taken a snap under center since he was in high school. He's in an offense that relies on speed, and you can see these defenses are figuring out how to stop the speed, and how to stop Tebow.
Florida has gotten lucky the last two games because of VERY poor officiating, despite sub par play.
If Tebow wins the Heismen this year I will lose all respect for College Football.
There is a lack of Heisman candidates this year.I'd have to vote for Ingram,as he is carrying the Bama offense.
It's going to be intriging, seeing what Tebow does,in the NFL.And for a guy who's so lacking,he sure is getting picked high in mock drafts.Of course,I'd rank him 5,after Locker,Clausen(gee, another Notre Damer),Bradford, and McCoy.
Suppose we get Suh/Berry,at 2,and then Tebow is still around with our next pick?I'm thinking, him and Cribbs in the backfield.
Go Browns!!!
Tebows getting picked high in the mock drafts because they have Jacksonville tacking him, which is to sell seats not win football games.
Even if Tebow is still around in the 2nd round, we need to much on this team to take a risk on him.
right now id rank the Qbs
1. Clausen
2. Locker
3. Bradford
4. McCoy
5. Mallet
6. Tebow
It's not just the Jags taking Tebow. For example WalterFootball.com has him going to the Redskins.
Please check out that site.It has us getting Jake Locker, which I'd be happy with. But it takes a jab at Mangenious, saying he may trade down, and blow it again.Talk about no love.Look who the Raiders take, with Berry still on the board. ![]()
I doubt Tebow will last past the top half of the first. Some people think he could revolutionize the game.I would like to be onboard for that dynasty,if it comes to fruition. If the Browns are lucky enough to get Suh/Berry,then they'll have to hope Tebow drops enough that we can trade up for him.Or not.I think a "wildcat" with Tebow and Cribbs, along with Harrison/Davis could work.It sure would be interesting.Remember, there once was a guy who decided to go with a short passing game, using three receivers, instead of just one, with the others as blockers for the reciever. That way,the offense could dink and dunk their way down the field, until the dbs got to greedy, then go deep. Most thought it was a recipe for disaster.Too complicated. His name was Paul Brown.May lightning strike twice.
Go Browns!!!
Mays is taken ahead of Berry there because its the raiders and everyone knows Al Davis suffers in the head.
We ran the wildcat once last week, I don't think its something were dedicated too. Either way I think its obvious Tebow wont be able to run over people in the Pros and his arm is not good, i dont understand why we would want him to be the quarterback, Brady Quinn is also a strong QB who doesn't have that good of an arm, why would we need Tebow to do the same.
If he goes somewhere else, and revolutionizes offenses around the NFL,we'll be on the outside looking in.I don't think it would be as bad as you're making it out to be.
Of course we're not dedicated to it yet.Tebow isn't even on the team.
I don't mind disagreeing on this.Who thought chocolate covered bacon would work?O'Malleys sold tons of it over the Sweetest day holiday. ![]()
Go Browns!!!
P.S.So if the Raiders take Berry,it will be because Al Davis has a screw loose?

I know. Walter Football is really down in their talent evaluating over the last 2 seasons.
Their mocks have been horrible lately.
They have the only mock I can find that has Berry below pick #4 or 5 IIRC.
I think they are also one of the only ones that has Tebow as a first rounder.
Tebow is a 2nd-3rd round QB and if he's there at my pick, I still pass on him.
I see mocks all over that have Mays going ahead of Berry, and Berry not in the top 5.So,you mustn't have looked very hard.I will agree that most mocks have Berry ahead of Mays, and in the top 5,Walter Football .com is hardly the only one out there to have Berry out of ther top 5,or behind Mays.
On my first random try,at 2010 mock NFL draft by FFT, they have, get this, the Browns taking Mays at 6,while the Raiders get Berry with No.7.
But the Browns won't be getting anybody early on D,if you ask me.
The vast majority of mock drafts have the Browns taking Sam Bradford, with the only QB off the board Clausen going to the Titans. They apparently think we can't out-lose the Titans.
I think we'll likely(90%) get another pocket passer, ala Bradford,Locker,or Clausen, unless BQ can find some new weapons.Like Robo. Then we can start thinking about the O-line/RB positions.Unless we trade down, which I think is 40% probable now,and higher if BQ somehow becomes our starter for 2010 before the draft.
But if we do end up trading down, and end up getting Tebow,I'm in.He's got a great touch with the football, can run at will, and is a very intelligent QB.Why all the hatred? Is that game that he ran right through the Buckeyes for the NCAA Championship still stinging? It's OK.You hated Sanchez, too.I'm prognosticating(guessing) that Tebow will be star,a Pro Bowler, for some lucky team.
I would really like to see a QB who can take-off with the ball when he has to.I'm all for Masoli right now, too.Him and Cribbs running the widcat. We could have our cake(Berry) in the first, and RB,OL,then Masoli(if he comes out,of course.)All first day.
Just a thought.we draft Berry, then Tebow, then OL,then Masoli.Give the Ravens DA for Smith, and go with Tebow,Masoli,Cribbs and Smith all in the backfield.Have them all going every-which way, causing mayhem for the defense.Any of them could take the snap, any throw, any recieve, and any run.Make all kinds of pickle-in-the-middle type plays for the defenses.Do it all in secret.then come out game one,and shock the world!!!How about 52-0 over Pittspuke,in Pittspuke!
Go Browns!!!
For what its worth Troy Smith is ganna be a free agent we wouldnt have to trade for him.
So it's on then!!! Git-r-dun!!!
Yeah he's restricted but I'm sure we would be willing to pay him more then the ravens if hes ganna be our starter.
So what are we going to give up to get him?
Starter? You mean 1/4 of our starter.Him,Tebow,Cribbs and Masoli.
Just wondering;Would they all be able to shout out signals?Could the center snap to whomever he wants?Could they do barbershop quartet material? How distracted would our enemy AFC North defenses be?Could they maintain a straight face?Or would they go down with sides pain, from laughter? How long before the league miked them up?Could they go Platinum?Remember, they'd have to be short ditties,Each ditty means a different play, and change them up,intermittenly.Or depending on who sings the a capella.
Four quarterbacks....If that don't make sense, then I took third grade math fer nuthin'.
zaklco;got me.somebody.
Go Browns!!!
