Kokinis Press Conference 12:30p Thursday
Kokinis diffused questions about trade rumors involving receiver Braylon Edwards and quarterback Brady Quinn by saying he would not comment "on internal business."
Asked if any potential trade might have to wait until draft day, Kokinis said, "That really has not been discussed. We're still stacking our (draft) board."
---
* The Browns would pick the "best available player" at No. 5 that possesses the "core characteristics" the team is seeking.
* "If the phone rings (for a trade), we're going to pick it up,'' but the Browns are prepared to use the No. 5 pick.
* He said Quinn has been unaffected by trade rumors.
"I've seen Brady. I haven't seen him change his work ethic. He's been upstairs working with Brian (Daboll, offensive coordinator) every day. He's always got a smile on his face. He's learning the offense.''
* He would not give an opinion on whom he considers is the best player in the draft.
* He declined to name the team's most pressing needs heading into the draft.
"I don't think there's a pressing need. When you go into a draft, you try to improve the whole team. I think there's need all over the football team. (We've got to) build depth, build competition."
* On running back Jamal Lewis, who had off-season surgery to "clean up" an ankle, Kokinis said, "One thing about Jamal is when you count him out he runs you over. That's what I do know about Jamal. If there's a back available that we like, we're going to grab him. (But) I think he's still got tread there. You can't count that man out."
* He has no concerns about the health of Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, who had surgery on a stress fracture of a foot on April 2. Crabtree, who visited the Browns this week, is currently the most popular pick for the Browns in recent mock drafts.
"There's a comfort level with Michael. He had the surgery. We got the information from the doctor. We feel good about where he is," Kokinis said.
* He thinks Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo has shown he can play outside linebacker in a 3-4 NFL defense and he believes that USC linebacker Ray Maualuga "can play on third down, and play on fourth down" as an NFL linebacker.
At least it's an indication that nothing is imminent on Brady being traded, and Brady isn't planning to pull a Cutler because he's too mature for an episode like that. So,I think Quinn has to prepare himself for whatever happens, especially if he is retained.Just lumping Quinn and Edwards together, and saying he has no comment on internal business concerning trades, doesn't do much else for me,and the rest is all smoke and mirrors.
True, but why even come out and say "I've seen Brady. I haven't seen him change his work ethic. He's been upstairs working with Brian (Daboll, offensive coordinator) every day. He's always got a smile on his face. He's learning the offense.'' ? It's not like he was forthcoming with other information. Just they way it was presented, and granted I haven't had a chance to listen to the PC yet, but it seems like they are happy with Quinn. Maybe I'm way off base.

Well,he has to put some kind of positive spin on it I would think. That's not a whole lot,but it's something.Maybe you're dead on it,but it's just not enough to really make me feel more than 50/50, and I guess that's the way they want it to sound, for whatever top secret reason they have in store. So here's a face for whatever they have in mind
We really didnt learn anything new from this press conference we could trade Quinn and we probably will trade Braylon which means we probaly will take Crabtree.
When Kokinis and Mangini speak, is anyone here impressed by them? I have listened to the Lions new coach Jim Schwartz. Listen to Sporano, Miami's coach. These guys sound like they know what they are doing, like there is a plan that they understand and are following it. They are impressive and demand respect. I just don't get the same feeling from either Mangini or Kokinis. I almost miss Savage and Romeo.
I disagree ManKok sounds just as confident and theres no way I miss the guy who trades away all our draft choices and his partner in crime who cant set game plans.
I haven't heard them speak a LOT, but I really think that it is just a byproduct of the mass secrecy within the organization. I think they have a very clear vision of what they want to do, I just don't know if it is what the I (or the fans) would do.
