How do you want the Draft to play out?

Currently for the draft, we have #s 5, 36, 50.  I think we take the best pass rusher at #5 and use the 2 second round picks on a RB and WR.  We need to upgrade our offensive skill positions in a bad way. My picks:

05. Brian Orapko
36. LeSean Mccoy
50. Brian Robiskie

Assuming we stay at the picks we have now (I heard Mangini/Kokonis would like to have 5 first day picks, not sure how they plan on doin' that, but) I wouldn't mind seeing the draft play out like:

5. Orakpo
36. Hakeem Nicks
50. Patrick Chung
100. Best rated RB

Obviously, a trade down for more picks is preferable, we just have too many holes on this team to fix them overnight.

*Thread title changed for clarification

5. Orakpo
36. Robiskie/Nicks
50. Chung

If we come out of the draft with those 3 guys i will do whatever i can to get season tickets. Cross your fingers that Orakpo will be there and im preety confident we could get one of those recievers which we need instead of a running back because of Stallworth and Chung would be a complete steel at the 50th pick.

We can also afford to not get a rb until next year because Mangini will have enough common sense to give Harrison more reps!

yeah guys, a safety to replace sean jones would be a wise choice.  if jerome harrison can have a breakout season, a top level youg safety woud be great.  maybe RB Shonn Greene will fall to the top of 4th round for us.

Check out this excellent highlight video of DT B.J. Raji.  We could definitly use this guy on the line.  If KC doesn't take him at #3, Iwould be happy to have him.

If we sign Raji at #5 to ride the bench,or so we can play a 350 lb Shaun Rogers as a pass rushing DE,I will vomit.

I only look at Raji if Curry and Orakpo are off the board.

In my opinion.  DE is actually the biggest need on the team.  The lack of any effective DE last year handicapped the entire defense.  I really wish Gerald McCoy would've declared this year.

Now I know that's not much of a case for Raji, but allow me to elaborate.

-If there is any area of Shaun Rogers game last year, it was that he penetrated too much, rather than tying up blockers.  Plus, it's not like he's even on the field for every play.  Imagine a well rested Shaun Rogers in the 4th quarter.  He is also 30 with a history of bad knees.

-Corey Williams doesn't fit the scheme.

-Robaire Smith is 32 and coming off a severe achilles injury.

-Shaun Smith is a headcase and cannot hold the point of attack on a remotely consistent basis.

-Ahtyba Rubin was a sixth rounder who saw more playing time due to injury than earning it. (though he did alright)

-The fact that Louis Leornard and Santonio Thomas even saw the field, let alone start.  *I think i just gagged a little

Add in the fact that Mangini was just quoted saying he might want Rogers at DE:

Then you can create matchups against an opponent where you may want Shaun [Rogers] at end, just because you like the matchup against that [offensive] tackle, or you may want him at the left side instead of the right side," Mangini said. "You want to be able to spin it however you want to spin it."

Raji just might be the pick.

<awaiting your response, zigg>

5th Orakpo or Curry
36th Vontae Davis or Jenkins
50th Leshaun McCoy/Javon Ringer/Rashard Jennings/Shon Greene either one would be nice
would love to have Chris Wells in 2nd round but doubt it will happen
we do need cornerback but we really need a good corner getting rid of Jones in our secondary didn't help either

We dont need to draft any corners, we signed 2 good veteran cbs who will help the 2 young guys Wright and Macdonald who have alot of potential. Not to mention theres no way we could get Jenkins or Vontae with the 36th pick.

Are ultimate need is the pass rusher. I think i might seriously cry if we get Raji. Prey we get Orakpo.

Zigg - bad day today?  A vomit bag??   BTW, in a 3-4, there are no defensive ends.  There are 3 DTs who can be interchangeable if they are big enough and athletic enough.  And Mangini has said he wants this.   If you watch the video, you will see the pass rush skills, pursuit skills, and quickness of Raji. The Browns may decide on the one player who can both stop the interior run and get a pass rush.

Did anyone watch the video?  Do you see why some mocks have KC picking Raji?  Raji is dominating against quality opponents.  I am simply throwing out an alternative to an OLB.  Don't fall in love with one player or one position and close your mind to other alternatives.

Good post-All valid points to be sure.Mangini seems to want to keep a rotation of sorts on the D-Line,and I can see the logic in keeping fresher players and exploiting matchups, but to me,that makes none of them an every down player. We do need another DT and we could certainly use a guy like Raji, but should we spend the #5 pick on a rotational guy of sorts,or a true impact player such as Orakpo. We desperately need a pass rushing OLB,and I think we get a lot more bang for the buck right there.I really want Orakpo, but if we can't get him, then I'm just hoping we can trade down with somebody. If we were to draft Raji at #5,I might not throw up,but I'm not gonna be too thrilled with it either.

Here is another one that i could see play out.  We need a run stopper and a pass rusher, so BJ Raji at
#5.  We can still get a very good OLB at #36.  You guys sold me on the need for a strong safety in the 2nd round.  I do think that Patrick Chung will be gone by our 3rd pick, so I have Chip Vaughn here.  He can run, has size, and he had a lot pass breakups.  Additionally, insted of drafting a WR early, I  think we pick up another veteran receiver in free agency.

#5 BJ Raji - DT - Boston College
#36 Connor Barwin - OLB - Cincinnati
#50 Chip Vaughn - SS - Wake Forest
#100 Andre Brown - RB -  NC State

Raji isn't my first choice, but I certainly wouldn't be mad.  I like what I've seen of Chip Vaughn, but he's gonna need some time to develop and I think he's there @ #104.

There are still some very good DT's that should be available in the 2nd round as well, like Ziggy Hood who I like a lot,and Ron Brace,Sen'Derrick Marks,Paul Kruger and Michael Johnson.I just feel that the dropoff at OLB after Orakpo is much greater.   Orakpo,Hood and Chung would be a great 1-2-3.I think we'll end up with another #2 as well.Robiskie or Donald Brown/Shonn Green could also possibly be had there.

Ziggy Hood's stock has been rising, he might go in the first.  If not I like Ziggy Hood or (even maybe a little more) Jarron Gilbert out of San Jose State, who would even provide a little pass rush from the 3-4 end position.

Orakpo, Hood/Gilbert, Chung/Delmas would be an AMAZING first day.

Agreed - Gilbert and Delmas are right there too.

Yeah, guys there is probably more quality depth at DL.  I put Connor Barwin in there based upon ratings and I really don't know anything about him.  I'm still loving those Raji highlights though - amazing quickness and moves for a guy his size.

Orakpo, Brace, Chung, Greene would probably be the best.

I didnt know who Ziggy Hood was before this conversation but i just watched his tape and he looks really good. Although I really think Robiskie could be a star and a steal for the 36th pick. So if we dont get anymore picks cross your fingers Hood falls to 50.

Heres how I would like our draft to pan out

#5 Brian Orakpo or Aaron Curry
If neither is available trade down and get more picks or get Darius Heyward-Bay or Chris Wells but we need a reciever more we can get by with Jamal Lewis and others till next year but if we lose Stallworth and dont get Holt or someone decent then we only really have Braylon Edwards no Kellen Winslow no more and we won't be able to put the points up.

#36 Sean Smith - DB
True we have two young corners Wright and McDonald who can be groomed by Corey Ivy and Hank Poteat but Smith has such incredible size 6'4 214 lbs and great feet he could even move to safety which would be awesome with Pool since we for some stupid reason let Sean Jones get away and sign with the Eagles. But yeah he could play corner or safety he could cover big recievers and would give the Browns a real weapon in the secondary.

#50 Michael Johnson -DE if gone take Robiskie he has good size and nice hands
Talk about great size 6'7 265 lbs makes u think of Peppers or Mario Williams and the Browns could use a guy like that on the defensive line to harrass the quarterbacks we could be a dominant defense with Orakpo or Curry teamed with this guy not to mention the other guys we have we. These would be smart picks for the Browns to make.
